Adult weight loss groups
The purpose of group behavior modification therapy is to help patients change behaviors that contribute to their obesity and initiate new dietary and physical activity behaviors needed to lose weight. We have developed a comprehensive weight loss support group run by licensed psychotherapist, Yoon Im Kane, with the medical supervision of Dr. Jamie Kane.
Patients meet on a weekly basis in group settings with an aim of developing coping skills to aid in weight loss and weight maintenance. Each week we focus on a different strategy to start off the group. Weekly topics include:
Stress Management: Mindfulness/meditation exercises
Finding Me Time: Strategies for self-care
Feel Your Feelings: Steps to deal with emotional eating
The New You: Working on self-confidence inside and out
Connecting The Dots: Identify the cycles of eating, learn mind-body awareness
Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates: Overcoming everyday obstacles to a healthy lifestyle
Teen weight loss groups
As the obesity rates in the U.S. continue to rise, childhood obesity is an ever-pressing public health concern. According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as of 2004, 16% (or nine million) of children in the U.S. were overweight or obese, a number that has tripled since 1980. Our staff at Park Avenue Weight has created a Youth Weight and Wellness Group Program for adolescents who have struggled with weight related issues.
Our group sessions are directed by licensed psychotherapist, Yoon Im Kane. Ms. Kane has extensive training and experience in working with teenagers. In addition, this group program is medically supervised by a specialized weight loss physician, Dr. Jamie Kane, who will provide onsite support and guidance on complex medical issues related to safe and sustainable weight loss.
Factors that we focus on in our group therapy address the emotional needs as well as successful weight loss strategies for adolescents through behavioral modification and pragmatic cognitive techniques. Our methods focus on:
Group support
Body image development
Individual control over diet
Identifying barriers to weight loss
Developing healthy coping skills
Establishing realistic weight goals
Sessions devoted to the challenges associated with weight loss and maintenance
Family consultation to encourage their teens’ weight loss efforts
